DEKO-ZE’S DECEMBER CHART
1. STONEBRIDGE – You Don’t Know * Hott 22 mix
(Egoiste)
Catchy? Yes. Floor filler? Yes. A little commercial? Yes.
But is it damn good? You bet!!
2. D-FORMATION & DAVID FERRERO
– What You Want (Yoshitoshi)
OMG! Ridiculous. D-Formation is one of the
only people who could make a 3 note melody sound SOOO deceiving, sneaky and
rewarding! Top tribal with five outstanding mixes!
3. MIKA – Love
Today * Switch remix (Casablanca)
There was a track called “Love Today”
that was prancing about and giggling like a school girl. From around a dark
alley, Switch emerged, bent “Love Today” over, poked the cheese out of it
and spat some thuggish dirty rips in its face!
4. DEKO-ZE VS DJS RULE
– Feel Love ‘ 07 * Deko-ze & Fierce remix (Hi-Bias)
Back in 1996,
“Feel Love” was a huge underground hit for Canadian label Hi-Bias. So, as I dug
through the Hi-Bias back catalogue and found this, I thought it would be suiting
to bring this back for ‘07. This slow burner has been getting wicked reaction!
Also, beware of a chunky and punky Deko-ze Mix and Dub, PLUS further
remixes from Montreal’s Marco G and Toronto’s Cajjmere
Wray!
5. DEADMAU5 & JELO – The Reward Is Cheese
(Rising)
I witnessed a dancer’s head pop clean off when this track was
working its assault!
6. ADD2BASKET – Kind Of Magic (Alternative
Route)
A chuggin’ and uplifting groover! Think Deux’s “Sun Rising
Up * Instrumental mix” and you’re on the right track.
7. HOXTON WHORES
– Sunrise (Hoxton Whores)
Speaking of rising suns, this end of set anthem
is stellar!!
8. BOZA – Twisted Mind * Alex Celler / Joee Cons / THE
JUNKIES – Basics EP (Rawthentic)
Nathan Barato’s Rawthentic label
goes from strength to strength with two more excellent Eps. The Toronto crew is
continuing to move forward with great tracks like these!
9.
PET SHOP BOYS – Integral * Dave Spoon mix (Parlophone)
Another month,
another wicked Dave Spoon remix!!
10. SMITH & SELWAY – Its
Like This (Renaissance)
This techno track means serious
business!
11. PLASTIKMAN – Spastik * Dubfire mix
(Minus)
In the Top 10 Techno tracks of all time, this 1993 classic would
be right up there. It is a track built entirely on a kick and snare and both
are used extremely cunningly that it still sounds like one of the largest tracks
on Earth. Dubfire provides a 2007 remix that stays true to the Original
but makes even larger!!
12. CALVIN HARRIS – Colours * Seamus Haji mix
(Do It Yourself)
The Original mix is a cheeky rip of Visage’s
classic “Fade 2 Gray” from 1982. Its a bit too plodding and slow for the
dancefloor so Seamus Haji stepped in and took it up ten
notches!!
13. D. RAMIREZ – Trouble (Slave)
To the peeps who
shout at me from the dancefloor, “Give us something dirty!!”, this one is for
you!
14. FEDDE LE GRAND & FUNKERMAN – 3 Minutes To Explain
No shame! This is basically Murk’s “Dark Beat” with some electro blips
and bleeps added to it. I can’t really complain though as I’m playing the hell
out of it!
15. RHTYHM CODE – Sing * Rene Amesz remix
(Progresso)
You know the drill with Amesz! Good, chunky and driving
stuff!
16. BASTARDS OF FUNK – You’re To Blame
(Commonwealth)
Excellent sexy tech house with an even better hip swinging
mix from Chris Micali!!
17. SEAN BIDDLE – Just Get Up &
Dance (Bid Muzik)
Good ole, easy going disco house! Just like Mama used
to make.
18. ANNIE LENNOX – Sing * Harry Choo Choo Romero Dub / remix
(Sony / BMG)
I have had a lot of respect for Ms Lennox over the past two
decades. She is a true diva who stands the test of time. Many remixers have
toughened up her beats for the dancefloor (including Todd Terry, who did
a timeless remix of “Little Bird”.) The latest single from her “Songs of Mass
Destruction” album, has Harry Choo Choo Romero up for remixing duties.
The dub is a dry, driving, Superchumbo-on-steroids mix and there is also a full
on Vocal mix!! Yumm!!
19. CHUS, MANACA & CEBALLOS – The Strong
Rhythm * Mastiksoul remix (Magna)
There I was spinning at Club 816
(AKA The World) in Vancouver. It was 6AM, the lights were low, sweat
was dripping from the walls and the beat was providing the pulsating rhythm to
sex and debauchery.
20. STEVE LAWLER – Courses For Horses
(Renaissance)
Courses For Horses, indeed! This is one driving mutha of a
track!
BURIED TREASURE!
O.T. QUARTET – Hold That Sucker Down * Builds
Like A Skyscraper mix (Cheeky) - 1995
Rollo Armstrong is the man behind
this classic gem that rides the fine line between funky house, trance and
progressive. It was a peak time emotional rollercoaster of a track that took
his Cheeky label to new heights. Rollo is also the brains behind Felix,
JX, Our Tribe, Glo-worm, Dusted, Faithless
and is Dido’s brother.
